About Us

Are you the owner of a reptile that you can no longer keep? Financial hardships, moving, college, loss of interest…regardless of your reason for having to part with your pet reptile, we offer a safe, healthy solution for those who have to part with their pet reptile(s).

2nd Chance Reptiles will assure that your pet reptile will be cared for and placed with an owner who has the skill, time and interest in those animals that can no longer be cared for by their previous owners. We ask no questions and you are not judged on your decision to relinquish your animal…all we ask is that you allow us to find a new home that is suitable for the type of reptile you can no longer care for.

Having a combined total of 22 year's experience with reptiles, mostly in the area of Green Iguanas and Monitor lizards, 2nd Chance Reptiles is a result of our endearing enjoyment of the most fascinating animals on the planet: reptiles. Unfortunately, as the popularity of reptiles as pets grow, so does the need for shelters such as ours as many reptiles (especially Green Iguanas and the large Monitors) are often abandoned or given up by their owners.

2nd Chance Reptiles rescues many of these unwanted pets, and after assessing their health (via qualified reptile veterinarians) and, in most cases correcting their diet(s); these animals are "rated" based upon their temperament, physical/medical condition, and suitability as pets. Many times we will house rescued animals for a period of 3-6 months before searching for a suitable owner. We strive to match the animal in question with a new owner who has experience with the particular animal being adopted.

We conduct seminars and educational programs with many local schools and zoo's in an effort to educate the public about reptiles in the wild and as pets. Our "hands-on" approach of teaching others about reptiles has resulted in many of those who visit us walking away with a better understanding of these magnificent creatures.

For those who currently own or wish to own reptiles as pets, we offer advanced care and husbandry advice for many types of reptiles. Unfortunately we do not have the facilities nor work with chelonians (turtles/tortoises).

Over the years, we have worked with, owned, or still own the following reptiles:

• Cornsnakes • Kingsnakes • Milksnakes • Gopher snakes • Bull snakes • Boa Constrictors • Pythons (including African Rock Pythons) • Hognose snakes • Mangrove snakes (rear-fanged) • False Water Cobras (rear-fanged) • Cat-eyed snakes (rear-fanged) • Western Diamondback Rattlesnakes • Bearded Dragons • Leopard Geckos • Crested Geckos • Green Iguanas (Iguana iguana) • Rock Iguanas (Cyclura spp.) • "Spiney-tailed" Iguanas (Ctenosaurs) • Savannah Monitors • Black-throat Monitors • White-throat Monitors • Dumeril's Monitors • Mangrove Monitors • Mountain Horned lizards • Plated lizards • Blue-tongued Skinks

We do not offer advice nor information on the keeping of any venomous species!
