Our Collection

As one would expect, over the years we ourselves have "adopted" many reptiles into our own personal collection. As a rescue facility, it takes a certain discipline in two distinct areas:

#1. You can't rescue them all.

#2. You can't keep them all.

There are, however, times when certain reptiles are able to break those barriers, and touch a place within the rescuer. Below are a few Iguanas that are now a part of our personal collection.

"Blueberry", Green Iguana (Peruvian); Male

Approximately 5 years of age.

Owner: Wade & Jackie Corbeil

Blueberry was a rescue from a local pet shop. At the time I acquired Blueberry, he was suffering from severe MBD, and a myriad of other injuries that had healed improperly; some of which severely limited his movement and ability to climb. To date, Blueberry has been placed in a very spacious cage designed for his limited activity; but still provides ample obstacles that allow him to get proper exercise.

Due to the neglect by his former owner(s), Blueberry can no longer climb the way a healthy Green Iguana can; so modifications in his cage include extra-wide basking platforms with wide "ramps" for him to climb on and off of, as well as very spacious ground space allowing him to attain some sort of exercise.

Blueberry has gained weight with the addition of a proper diet, and has one of the sweetest dispositions for a animal that has suffered so much abuse in the past.

"Ruby", Cuban Rock Iguana ; Female

Approximately 3 years of age.

Owner: Wade & Jackie Corbeil

I purchased Ruby from a owner who tired of caring for her. Other than a slight kink in her tail, she was well cared for by her current owner, and is a very gentle animal. By all appearance, she was maintained under optimal conditions, and is in great health!

Although it is always sad to see Iguana's "given up" by owners, it is ALSO a pleasure to see one so well taken care of while the owners did have possession of it! The owner may have tired of the daily routine needed to meet their demands, but a great big "Kudo's" for assuring that she was cared for properly until a new home was found for her.

She has become a permanent part of our family, and is one of my wife's favorites as well!

"Draco", Green Iguana; Male

Approximately 2½ years of age.

Owner: Wade & Jackie Corbeil

Draco is another rescue that I adopted in to our permanent family. He is pure male Iguana...with all the trimmings! But there is something about him that my wife and I took a liking to, so we have added him to our brood of "Iggy's".

Not always the most docile of Iguana's, and he has been responsible for more scratches than we can count, he still to this day captivates us. He is the ultimate Iguana...as long as he is left alone in his cage! He is pure Tasmanian Devil when removed. Needless to say, due to this reason, his enclosure is quite large and we admire him from afar.

Oddly enough, when we are looking at him (while he is in his cage) he always comes to the front of his enclosure to "greet" us, and will stare at us for as long as we stare back...he even allows us to pet him through the wire mesh. It seems a kind of happy medium for all of us.

Draco: grumpy, nippy, easily agitated, and a great Iggy!

"Rosco", Green Iguana; Male

Approximately 6-7 years of age.

Owner: Wade & Jackie Corbeil

Rosco was found roaming on the streets in a nearby town and picked up by animal control. After the mandatory 7-day waiting period, I was contacted and asked if I had room for him; if not, he would have to be euthanized.

They didn't have to ask twice!

Rosco was, despite the circumstances that brought him to us, in extremely good condition. Nice weight, extremely gentle, and a personality that just has to be seen to understand. It's as if he "knows" we saved him from a fate that was less-than desirable. He is missing a portion of his tail, which is remarkable for a animal this large and tame found wandering the streets teaming with dogs and cats!

It does appear as if he suffered MBD at one time, and suffers from a misshapen lower jaw...but all tests and indications show that this condition was halted before we acquired him, and with the help of a nutritious diet, he will maintain his current level of health. Sadly, we can't undo what has been done, but we can assure that it doesn't progress any farther.

Rosco loves to be handled, and will gladly greet us at his door whenever we approach his cage. Of course, who are we to refuse his desire to be held!

He too is now a part of our permanent family, and makes a nice addition to our other Iguana's.

"Bubba", Green Iguana; Female

4 years old

Owner: Wade & Jackie Corbeil

Bubba is our newest addition, a well-cared for and freindly female. I was approached by a friend of ours who could no longer keep her due to issues regarding apartment management.

Clacy contaced us and told us her predicament, and was not only upset that she had to ged rid of her beloved Iggy, but was equally concerned as to the Iggy's future. Knowing we had the space for another Iggy, she asked if we would like to have her on a long-term basis (personal pet).

Having known Clacy for quite some time, and knowing how she cared for "Bubba", both in terms of care and personally, we told her we would be glad to take Bubba in.

She appears to be in good health, and eats like a champ, but we have noticed a slight underbite and what appears to be an area of "flattening" just posterior to the nostrils/front jawline. Although she has been jostled around and placed in a new environment, she seems to be adapting quite well.
